Thoughts on: The Book of Boba Fett

Finished Disney+'s "The Book of Boba Fett".

Thoughts and spoilers below:

...

I wanted to like this so much more than I did.

There was there gem of a great story here.  A Star Wars version of "Seven Samurai", with an odd mixture of characters coming together to fight off an army that outnumbered them.  But... it didn't work.

Part of the problem is right there in the title- if you're calling it "The Book of Boba Fett", then you expect the story to be about Boba Fett.  But of the seven episodes, he wasn't featured in two of them.  And in the others, he wasn't portrayed as particularly cunning or clever- a big problem when it's a story about fighting a criminal enterprise.  He's brave, and they tried to show that he's learned something from his time with the Tusken Raiders.  But his story could have been told in one episode, and the writers didn't make him a character you wanted to root for.

They could have spent one episode focusses on each of the collective group and built up the Pyke Empire, so when the big showdown happens, it means something.  It doesn't take too much screen time- they got the point across with Cad Bane in less than 10 minutes.  But it takes good writing.

Instead, it was a collective mess, counting on deus ex Rancor to save them from the mistakes that should have been obvious.

A couple of other thoughts:

* When I say that The Book of Boba Fett is a failure, it's a failure like the Prequels were a failure- a good idea that wasn't executed well.  The Sequels were a failure on an entirely different scope- a slap in the face to the fandom and a waste of everyone's time and talent.

* Timothy Olyphant fits in the "he makes every show better" category of actors

* The show might have been much better if it had been about Fennec Shard instead of Boba Fett

* I'll say it- The Mandolorian/Grogu/Luke shouldn't have been in this series.  Great characters, but those episodes should have been the first part of the next Mandalorian series.  Build up other Tattooine characters to be part of the group of heroes.
